Getting Deeper Podcast #89 mixed by Foreign Guest

Getting Deeper Podcast #89 mixed by Foreign Guest

For Getting Deeper’s 89th podcast, we’ve got a spacious deep tech set by Foreign Guest. The set carries a modern, cinematique sound along with a shattering audio clarity. It’s dark, mysterious but also sexy… making it a perfect companion for those dizzying afterhours.

We love the track selection on this one because it’s consistently classy and abides by the overall theme of the set, which is essentially a hauntingly heady trip into the dark hours of the night. Whether you spend it alone or with friends, there is no denying the fact that the set creates an inward, cocooning space around you.

Thanks Balthasar! it’s a pleasure to host this set on GD.

Getting Deeper Podcast #85 mixed by Arkadiusz

Getting Deeper Podcast #85 mixed by Arkadiusz

After almost a year, we’re very happy to welcome Arkadiusz for the second time on the Getting Deeper podcast series. While his first podcast was a more earthy set with organic melodies, the second one is futuristic and hypnotic.

What we have here is a levitating set with soaring melodies and a sensually dark atmosphere. Feels like the set is a continuation to the previous podcast… almost like a turning point into a different state of mind. Perhaps we are correlating this to the artist’s own change of direction.; but while the direction seems like a change, the journey is the same.

And on this musical journey, Arkadiusz takes us into an absolutely mind blowing odyssey of luminous and dreamy soundscapes. Every track is top class and fits perfectly well with the set’s overall vibe, which is full of rich sound and emotional overtones. We love it.

Thank you Arkadiusz for once again giving us an impeccable set.

Getting Deeper #79 with D33P – Notes From Outer Space

Getting Deeper #79 with D33P – Notes From Outer Space

Alex Bass aka D33P marks his presence for the second time in Getting Deeper’s podcast series. His first set for GD was its 35th podcast and was published more than a year ago. Today, D33P brings us a more refined and a much darker style of disconnected synths and spacious atmospheres.

D33P has woven this set in such a way that it conveys absolute coherence. It is a solid set where deep tech is transformed into an ‘outer space’  dimension where each element comes into play with the rest in perfect harmony. Such flawless solidarity can only come from someone who has a lucid understanding of not only sound as an element, but also the emotions that come with it. Whether it is intentional or simply an innate understanding, we don’t know. But it’s there, and it’s what we call quality.

And so, his 79th set for Getting Deeper is an unfettered look into GD’s dark and mysterious side. He takes us on a journey to our innermost, shadowy corners – a part of us that has an inexplicable affinity towards the unknown, towards the sublime and often overpowering experience of total and final escapism. An act often represented by (literally) outer space journeys.

Thank you and welcome once again Alex! This set is absolute klasse.

Getting Deeper #78 With Daniel Zuur – Welcoming Warmth

Getting Deeper #78 With Daniel Zuur – Welcoming Warmth

Around 2 weeks ago GD had the privilege of welcoming an artist who has been a long wait for its podcast series – Daniel Zuur. His Katermukke releases were much loved on GD and consequently a setting stone for a must have set on Getting Deeper. And so, I feel proud to finally have him in the Getting Deeper family with a beautiful set that is definitely one of its kind on GD.

His set is an embodiment of what Getting Deeper represents. It’s melancholic, warm, deep and ultimately passionate. There is a certain honesty to it… an honesty that explores all the different facets of living, loving and feeling. And it explores them passionately, and deeply. That’s Daniel Zuur for you.

Zuur’s music is deep and intense, but not in a dark, spacey way. It exudes a heartwarming and timeless vibe that can only be compared to the end of summer, and beginning of autumn. There is a certain melancholy to it, one that accepts and acknowledges life as it is – a wholesome experience of the fleeting nature of life’s beauty. An experience that is fleeting in itself – hard to hold on to but intense when you catch it. That is autumn. That is Zuur’s music.

Each track in the set has a quality of its own. Some tracks are ones you can just curl into, perhaps in the comfort of a bed and a lover. And some that you can only experience best by yourself, walking alone under a warm sky on wide roads, the sun breaking out in bursts as you make your way up… with no particular need of a destination.

The rest… a nostalgic look at the things and the people who have made you feel more than you can ever get used to, people who have gone past… and the ones who are yet to come.

Here is to a set for strangers, lovers and summers. A set that will stay with us forever and played over and over again. Played for all of life’s moments, just as they play themselves over and over… with each passionate moment being as novel and fascinating as the one before. Is that something we can ever get tired of?

Getting Deeper Podcast #76 Mixed By Sander

Getting Deeper Podcast #76 Mixed By Sander

I have been waiting to release this set by Sander ever since I first heard it, and it makes me very happy to know that it is a big part of GD’s current direction. Sander’s set is one of those sets that stay true to their intended vibe. It’s a thoughtful compilation in which each individual element compliments the rest perfectly. That’s what Getting Deeper is about anyway. For it to be a complete and wholesome experience, every micro element needs be a part of a bigger personality. The end result is a strong vision, a philosophy and a singular experience translated into a multi-dimensional work of art, and a brand that is hard to forget, whether you like it or not.

THAT is exactly what Sander has captured in this captivating set. It rests on a very fine line… a line that I believe is sensuality. It’s euphoric, not happy. Mysterious, not dark. Electrifying, not aggressive. It is a gentle exploration of sexuality through music, and if you’ve got that right… you’ve got the subtle art of sensuality right. And that’s rare.

He begins the set with slow, deep tracks and gradually pushes them to more grandiose and hypnotic sounds. Genre wise, the set is mix between deep house and a little bit of nu disco. Spacious melodies, sultry vocals and cosmic vibes come together in this 1 hour, mesmeric listening experience that is beautifully packaged and incredibly sexy.

Thank you Sander for this lush set. Love it.

Getting Deeper #75 with SaHne – Deep Forces

Getting Deeper #75 with SaHne – Deep Forces

Before I introduce this set to GD’s listeners, I would like to say a few words about what Getting Deeper is and how much it means to me. GD is an extension of my personality. Getting Deeper… from the way it looks, to its play with words, its artists and finally its music is (I hope) a complete experience of the senses. I hope to lead GD’s listeners to intangible dimensions of time and space… to take them deep into themselves and sometimes out of this world. I know this is intense, but that is Getting Deeper.

Over the (almost) 2 years that have seen the growth of GD from its birth back in June 13th, many transformations have happened to the website. To those few fans who have observed GD’s timeline, the timeline is partly a parallel representation of my own life in the last 2 years. Needless to say… GD will exist till the time I exist.

And hopefully, there is a lot more in store for both of us.

And now to the set that has been a long wait for Getting Deeper. Let’s welcome the 75th member in GD’s podcast series: SaHne. The set begins with a mysterious and exotic intro that may startle many… but for those of us who have been exploring deep sounds and particularly the ones in podcasts for a while, it will definitely feel familiar.

The entire set carries a similar vibe; it is an exploration of the past that takes you back to a mysterious and dark space in time. It’s beautifully haunting. While GD has seen many soulful and warm sets in its early months… it has now matured to spacey, darker and more chilling sounds. I hope that many of GD’s listeners have evolved in time with us. If not, we will definitely try and bring the older sound back but in a slightly warmer way.

But my god, how we have evolved. SaHne‘s set is a perfect representation of that evolution. Compiled impeccably well with coherent tracks, the set is a story that promises to get more and more intense as it progresses. It’s not for the light hearted… for the set is a companion to dark nights spent alone in the dim yellow haze of your room. It’s one of those therapeutic nights that you know you need to spend alone. Most people won’t even understand it.

Musically, the set is melodic and multi-layered. Cinematique even.

So dim those lights out, light that smoke up… and let yourself get a little deeper.

Getting Deeper #73 mixed by Oliver Rottmann

Getting Deeper #73 mixed by Oliver Rottmann

I am happy to announce that after a dry month for Getting Deeper, we finally have our 73rd podcast and the first set of 2015 by Vienna based Oliver Rottmann. The set carries a spacey and cinematic sound that is felt deeply by those of us who truly understand what deep music is all about.

Quite often I’m faced with statements which assume that deep music is directly related to deep house. Contrary to popular belief, deep music is a dimension… not a genre. Being ‘deep’ is a state of mind and an emotional feeling that characterizes a multi-layered, intense and heightened awareness of experiences. Which means that, in simple words… you tend to consciously or subconsciously dig deeper into life’s experiences; one of them, in this context… is sound.

Deep music, then, is a type of sound that is primarily intense and can be incorporated in any genre. It represents a deeper experience of life through its philosophical, hard to categorize and intangible undertones. Sublime, dark, emotional, soul shattering and mind blowingly chilling are terms I like to use for this kind of music. It can be very simple, but it has got to be more than just music. Listening to it must make you feel like you are on a journey…in the middle of space maybe. It has got to take you deeper into yourself and into the innumerable possibilities of your imagination. Most importantly, it has got to touch a part of you… your thoughts, your dreams and your experiences.

Almost every genre has a deep side to it, which is usually more minimal and crisp. Even ‘Deep House’ has a separate sound that is truly very deep even though the term is broadly used for any track that has a lower BPM than traditional house. The deeper side of deep house is more dark, minimal, intensely melodic or spacey compared to its soulful, happy counterpart.

Oliver Rottman’s set for GD is a deep set. I will refrain from calling it only Deep House because it is too broad a term and does not do justice to the essence of this set. This is the kind of set that is best heard when you are in a state of mind to space out. It feels like an affirmation of your identity to be a self conscious, fully breathing, feeling and thinking individual who can make sense of both the dark and exhilarating aspects of life…particularly through music.

Atmospheric and airy tones together with lush vibes make up the hallmark of this gorgeous set. Tracks in this set are laced with ambient sounds and deep seated, clear beats. The resulting package is a smooth, hypnotic and crisp set with a killer progression that is not afraid to get deeper and darker with its movement…in a very subtle way.

I admire sets that don’t leave much room for frills or pretentiousness. This is one of them.

If you have an appetite for deep electronic music (and the kind that I am talking about) like me, you will admire this too.

Enjoy 🙂

Thank you Oliver!

Getting Deeper Podcast #72 mixed by Milo Häfliger

Getting Deeper Podcast #72 mixed by Milo Häfliger

Milo Häfliger makes his presence for the second time in the Getting Deeper Podcast series. His first podcast for Getting Deeper was absolutely lovely and a favorite for a lot of GD’s fans. And so, it is really great to have him again on GD… this time, with a much deeper and a much more emotional set.

What’s special about Milo’s sets is the fact that he combines beautiful dialogues and speeches with even more beautiful music. It lends the set a depth that is, almost every time, heightened by the power of words. The set becomes an aural representation of the artist’s deepest thoughts. It’s stunning.

You are immediately transported to an inexplicable human state that is both intangible and profound, and can only be felt through music. There is no other art form that can touch a person’s soul so deeply that it is too dream like and intimate to explain. Music, truly, speaks the language of something beyond us… something divine and absolutely soul shattering.

Milo told me that through this set he seeks to capture the feeling of being fully present. He explains it through the word ‘isola’ which is the latin form of isolate and the Italian word for ‘island.’ With this set, he tries to create an island – a place where we face the wind and forget everything. It is a place where we deserve to live our lives to the fullest without any concessions.

Musically, the set is intensely emotional, deep and infused with clarity. Clear, airy melodies are placed on top of slow, timeless beats. The end result is a soft, sensual and mature set that is perfect for personal, intimate moments.

Thank you Milo… once again, for a gorgeous set.
